Face Recognition Demo?

Filed under: Play, Fun, People, Photos — andyp @ 9:53 am

If you were curious to see which celebrity myheritage.com thinks you most look like, you can try it out yourself here: Face recognition. [Found on fark.com]

I’m not so sure about it; I apparently resemble Lec Walesa (57%), Moritz Leuenberger (56%), someone named Bill Watterson that I’ve never heard of (55%), Jon Voight (51%), Robert Redford (50%), and Linus Pauling (50%). Surely I’ll be the Sexiest Man Alive someday.

Here’s the best reference I’ve yet found for the Wavefront .obj file format: http://www.csit.fsu.edu/~burkardt/data/obj/obj_format.txt.

I’ve got a back-burner project that needs to import and export to this format.

Guitar Hero

Filed under: Work, Play, Fun, Rave — andyp @ 8:29 pm

I’d only read about it until just a couple of days ago. But it’s true: Guitar Hero rocks. It’s a great game. It’s fun, it looks great, and while this might mess you up if you actually want to learn to play a real guitar later, it’s worth it.

I think I’ve got a crush on Judy Nails.

I just wish more Stevie Ray Vaughn had been included. Maybe in the next one.

If you had to choose only one, which would you choose: A Charlie Brown Christmas, or Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer?

For bonus points, in Rudolph there is a doll on the Island of Misfit Toys. What is wrong with her and why is she there?

Hubble Space Telescope Hall Of Fame

Filed under: Think, Things, Rave, Photos — andyp @ 11:11 am

Some of the best Hubble Space Telescope images are available here: The European Homepage For The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. If I had to pick a single favorite, it would be this one: a perfect storm of turbulent gases. The image spans 3 light years. Keep in mind that it doesn’t actually look like that to the naked eye — the image has been colorized by spectral data.
